Cikita
Z., Cikiz, CKZ... all aliases of Nadia
Francesca Zanellato,
born in Turin,Italia, the 3rd of April of 1974.
At thirteen, I began to wear lipgloss, moving on to lipstick at fourteen.
After graduating from high-school in 1993, I attended a course of illustration
and comic art and I saw my first comic story published on 1996 in the
monthly magazine "Psycoattiva" of Edizioni Shake, Milano. In
the meantime, I was drawing and painting as often as possible, for local
fanzines, squats, bands' album covers, t-shirts, on city walls and otherinteresting
surfaces. I spent the next three years of my life travelling around Europe,
living and working mostly in Ireland, France and the Netherlands. It was
here that I was affected by the most intense and revealing work experience.
I became assistant and multilingual guide in the Contemporary Art Museum
Het Domein of Sittard , where I had the possibility to meet international
artists and to view their works - Pippilotti Rist in particular is the
one who started my interest in videoart. Throughout 1998 and 1999, I worked
at the atelier of fashion accessories of stylist M.Bonavita, experiencing
new visions about fashion, materials and shapes. During these years, I
began to work in conjunction with art galleries in both Turin and Milan.
In January 1999 I founded with
A. Daddi the videoart-group KIDDDZ,
for which we were selected for the 2000 edition of BIG (Biennale of Young
artists of the Mediterranean area) and we are now still working and touring
Europe as v-jís.In 2000/2001, I attended a multimedia school which
resulted in my working free-lance in graphics, animation and video choosing
those projects where I could express and involve my art and illustrative
aptitude and attitude.
And today I 'm happy because my life can
just be pink or black, and the good thing is that usually I can choose
between which colour lenses I view the world - I draw and paint in a STUPIDINA
PINKYPOP-GLITTERY-ONIRICO
-CHILDISH style because I think that deep and melancholy art is too easy
a path to follow these days and, therefore, too dull and boring a route!
I try to translate events of everyday life into sparkling instantaneous
freeze frames - to perceive the magic in the ordinary - to emphasise fears
with burning colours. I want to suspend the invocation and the surprise
to keep them constantly alive; I am seeking
for the innocent and the amazing, for my own delight and secret holiness.
